The Liverpool manager is planning a winter transfer window to improve the team

Liverpool ended this first part of the season with a win against Southampton that brings them closer to the European places. The Reds have had an inconsistent start to the season and are 15 points off the pace of Mikel Arteta's Arsenal, so for the moment the aim is to make up places so as not to jeopardise their presence in the Champions League next season.

In this scenario, Jürgen Klopp does not close the door to Liverpool being able to go to the market in January. "We are always open to this kind of thing (transfers), but we don't have to open this discussion now," the German manager said after the game. "If there is something possible we will do it but the door is open and so are we. It's not about wanting. We want to improve the team all the time, we just believe on the training ground we can do it there," he added.

Liverpool have had injury problems that have compromised the sporting planning. However, with the management announcing they are putting the club up for sale, it does not look like the Reds are in a position to make big splashes this winter.

"One of the biggest mistakes of my life was not signing Son. He is an outstanding, world-class player and one of the best strikers in the world," said the Stuttgart boss. At the time, Son was at Bayer Leverkusen, from where he signed for Tottenham Hotspur in 2015 for a fee of 30 million euros. A figure that today seems derisory given his subsequent performance in England.

Klopp thought of Son

As well as praising Son, Klopp was pleased that the attacker could finally play in the Qatar 2022 World Cup. "I hear he's fine. Maybe he needs to wear a mask, but even with a mask he will be fine," he said. The South Korea star, who is drawn in Group H with Portugal, Ghana and Uruguay, underwent "surgery last week to stabilise a fracture around his left eye", Tottenham said. The surgery, however, will not prevent him from playing in what will be his third World Cup.
