Last Monday, Manchester United defeated Liverpool 2-1 in an English football derby between two struggling sides, with the Reds still without a win after three games. With Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench late on and captain Harry Maguire on the bench, Dutchman Erik ten Hag's side secured victory with goals from England internationals Jadon Sancho (16) and Marcus Rashford (53).

An unfamiliar Liverpool side pulled a goal back through Egypt's Mohamed Salah, but it was too late to prevent the Red Devils' first win of the season. The result left United 14th, two places above 16th-placed Liverpool, who, after two early draws, remain winless and are now seven points behind leaders Arsenal and five behind title rivals Manchester City.

"It's not the result we wanted, that's for sure. It was a game with a lot of interruptions," lamented Jürgen Klopp. "They started very aggressive and it was obvious what was going to happen: they had the first chances and scored first. After that we reacted and played what we wanted to play, but we lacked luck on a few occasions, especially from set-pieces. It would have been nice to have gone in at half-time at 1-1," added the German Liverpool boss.

Luis Diaz's performance

After the defeat, some European media analysed the present of the Colombian Luis Diaz according to what he did for Liverpool. "Luis Diaz was announced as Liverpool's new player on 30 January 2022. Since his arrival, the Colombian has quickly become a star for the Reds and, as a result, Jürgen Klopp has opted to keep him in the starting line-up. The Colombian has already won two titles with the English side and, following his starring role last term, Diaz and his teammates were expected to make a great start to the new season. However, it is the worst start for the Anfield side in the last ten years," Spanish daily Marca reported.

"This poor start for Liverpool also becomes Diaz's worst moment since he signed for the Reds. Lucho also lost his unbeaten run in the Premier League, having previously been unbeaten in this competition. He had eleven wins and four draws and on 22 August, Klopp's side lost 2-1 to Manchester United in the third round of the Premier League. Liverpool are struggling to find their feet and Luis Diaz has not been able to avoid the bad moment the club is going through", added the aforementioned media.

Echo published dozens of articles analysing multiple plays and concluded that the Colombian tried, but was neutralised by Diogo Dalot, the Portuguese defender at the service of Manchester United. Liverpool will now face AFC Bournemouth, who are 15th in the table, one place above the Anfield club, on Saturday 28 August at 9am Colombian time, where Luis Diaz will be hoping to end Liverpool's poor run of form and get their first Premier League win.
