A Liverpool star will spend several weeks on the sidelines after his injury was confirmed. Liverpool are trying to get back into contention at the top of the Premier League table after a catastrophic season. Now, after seven games, Jürgen Klopp is starting to have problems with injuries to a star player. It has been a positive start to the season for Liverpool, with five wins and a draw in the first seven games. The Reds sit in fourth place in the table, just 2 points behind defending champions Manchester City, who are once again leading the league.

The only defeat for the Anfield side in this season's championship came on the last matchday against Tottenham. Jürgen Klopp's side lost 2-1 away to Spurs. The visitors' only goal was scored by Cody Gakpo, who was injured in the action. The Dutchman scored Liverpool's only goal late in the first half and did not come on for the second half. Diogo Jota came on in place of his team-mate and the player's estimated time out is now known.

Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink has revealed that the player will not be back on the pitch until after FIFA. "Cody Gakpo is expected to be out for several weeks at Liverpool. The Dutch games in October do not seem feasible for the former PSV player at the moment. So, in a best-case scenario, Jürgen Klopp will have Cody Gakpo back for the derby against Everton on 21 October. The striker will therefore be absent for the games against Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League and Brighton in the Premier League. This is in addition to the Netherlands national team's FIFA matchday fixtures.

After the defeat to Tottenham, Liverpool will have to think about their next game, which will be in the UEFA Europa League. They will host Union Saint-Gilloise at Anfield on Thursday 5 October, with the first meeting between the brothers Alexis and Kevin Mac Allister.
