Liverpool visit Brighton next Sunday at the Falmer Stadium, where the Reds will be looking to forget last Saturday's heavy defeat to Tottenham, which ended their unbeaten run and their chances of finishing top of the Premier League, as well as losing Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota to suspension and injury to Cody Gakpo.
Gakpo had to come off at half-time after scoring the equaliser as he turned his knee after the goal, but minutes before that, a tackle by Italian Iyenoma Udogie, where the Dutchman's ankle was twisted, may have been the main reason for the injury. So this represents an opportunity for other players, Darwin Núñez being the main beneficiary of this situation, because although he has been doing well during the games where he has played, being the second scorer of the team with three goals like Mohamed Salah, so the game against Brighton could be the time for the Uruguayan to become the top scorer of the team this season.
While Nunez will have a great opportunity this Sunday when they face the Seagulls, Cody Gakpo's injury looks set to last a couple of weeks and while he could return after the international break it is not yet certain, Nunez will have to be at his best to convince Jürgen Klopp that he can be the starting striker.
Brighton will also play in the Europa League on Thursday, however in their first game against AEK Athens they lost their opening game so Roberto De Zerbi, coach of the Seagulls, will have to field a team with his best players to avoid dropping any more points in the cup, so on Sunday De Zerbi could field a team with some players who are not as regular in the starting line-up.
