Following the conclusion of the final FIFA World Cup fixture list ahead of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, the leagues in Europe resume, with the Premier League at the epicentre of the world. The Red's will host Brighton Hove Albion at Anfield in what will be the 9th round of the championship and the debut of Roberto de Zerbi as manager of the 'Seagulls'. Both sides are coming off the back of wins in their last official fixture.

Prior to this match, the Blue and Whites' manager confirmed the absence of key elements for his team, such as the midfielder Enock Mwepu, who paradoxically scored the last time the two teams met at Anfield last season. The African player even posted a tweet on his Twitter feed that hints at his injury, as it reads a message to God, praying for him and his family at this difficult time.

In addition to this, questions have been raised about Tariq Lamptey and former Liverpool FC player Adam Lallana. The Ghana defender missed his side's last match against Nicaragua, dropping out of the starting line-up at the last minute after a muscle strain in the warm-up. The England midfielder, meanwhile, has missed the last four league games following a groin injury sustained in the game against West Ham United on 21 August.

Needless to say, Polish international Jakub Morder is sidelined after a horrific cruciate ligament injury suffered last April, which has prevented the midfielder from reporting for training at Brighton Hove Albion. Despite these significant absentees, the Seagulls have had a great start to the season and sit in 4th place with 13 points.

Brighton will have several absentees

Meanwhile in the Liverpool FC camp, the confirmed absentees for this match are English midfielders Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Guinea's Naby Keita and Scotland's Calvin Ramsay, in addition to French defender Ibrahima Konate, Scotland centre-back Andrew Robertson and Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.
