Liverpool fans explode over comparison of legend with Real Madrid player

One of the greatest players in Reds history was the target of a comparison that angered many.

One of the greatest players in Reds history was the target of a comparison that angered many.

To talk about Steven Gerrard is to talk about the football icon of an entire generation, a consequence of having been one of the best midfielders in the history of football. Now retired for more than five years and current coach of Aston Villa, the Englishman has an heir on the other side of the planet who is surely his reincarnation in today's football: Fede Valverde.

Those who have met both players attest that the Real Madrid player is the Gerrard of this generation. Even improved. "He has many things of Gerrard", explained Ancelotti, who knows a lot about this: he currently coaches Valverde - one of his right eyes in the Real Madrid squad - and has seen players of all colours, facing Gerrard many times and suffering him as many others, especially in those great Champions League duels of the 2000s.

Liverpool player's surprising comments about Jürgen Klopp

Luis Suárez, former Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid striker, who in an interview in MARCA explained that he reminded him of Gerrard because "he has similar conditions", knows them both better. And Suárez knows both on his side because he has had Valverde with the national team but was Gerrard's team-mate for four years during which they formed a lethal connection.

Such praise and comparisons are the result of Fede Valverde's spectacular form, who "has everything to reach his level - Gerrard's - and even more," says Ancelotti. The Italian coach has made the Uruguayan a key player in this Real Madrid team that plays (and wins) around the Uruguayan. This Sunday's return to LaLiga against Osasuna (21:00) is expected to be just that. His influence is at a maximum and his step forward has a lot to do with how Carletto looks after him, a specialist in being a father to the youngsters. The clearest example of this model is Vinicius, but Valverde and Rodrygo follow the same path.

Luis Suárez compared Valverde to Gerrard

Praised by one and all, not just those who might be suspicious because they are teammates, Fede Valverde has already earned himself the status of the new Gerrard of football. The reality is that to see the Uruguayan now could well be to go back 15 years in time and remember that British player with a strong shot, with command of the whole midfield, with an air of leadership and with control over everything around him. That was Gerrard and that is Fede Valverde, so this comparison, in a sport given to ease, is not at all exaggerated.
