Liverpool have been put up for sale by the club’s American owners Fenway Sports Group, according to The Athletic.

The Reds have been under the control of FSG since they were taken over in 2010, with the American group paying just £300m to buy the club following a period of turbulent ownership with George Gillett and Tom Hicks. Now FSG has decided that the time has come to sell Liverpool and they have put the club up for sale.

It is claimed that a full sales presentation has been prepared for interested parties, as FSG seek a buyer. While FSG is inviting offers to be made for Liverpool, it remains unclear whether any proposal which would satisfy them will arrive, and when it might do so.

FSG seek a buyer

Liverpool have struggled in the Premier League this season and face a battle to finish in the top four. FSG has been criticised by a number of Liverpool fans for failing to properly back Jurgen Klopp in the transfer market to compete at the very top of the game.

Liverpool won the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020, under Klopp, and face Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League in the new year.
