Klopp's devastating words that have Liverpool fans thinking the worst

We are not in the title race', were the stark words of Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp after Sunday's 3-2 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. This statement makes Reds fans expect the worst as they look ahead to the rest of the Premier League season in which they hope to return to the title race. But with the poor results so far, they have gradually lost hope of being champions. 

‘What you build with your hands, you knock down with your backside. That is not helpful. Is that the perfect opponent for finding confidence back? Probably not. We don’t have to look yet at the table. We know where we are without looking at it, we aren’t dumb. We have to sort it and we will. This game is gone now. We did a lot of good things, two really nice goals and played some good stuff but we stand here with no points’.

Saka coolly slotted home the penalty in the 76th minute after midfielder Thiago Alcantara had stamped on Brazilian attacker Gabriel Jesus. It was the third and final time in the match that the Gunners took the lead. As the home side, Arsenal got off to the best possible start when Brazilian striker Gabriel Martinelli scored after just 58 seconds had elapsed.

Liverpool went from strength to strength and levelled through Uruguay's Darwin Nunez after 34 minutes. Arsenal restored the lead in the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time, with Saka tapping in Martinelli's pass. But the visitors responded again in the 53rd minute. After coming off the bench, Brazil's Roberto Firmino scored from almost no angle to make it 2-2.

Thiago's disputed foul set the tone for the final whistle, with Saka calmly slotting home the penalty. The win left Arsenal top on 24 points, one ahead of Manchester City. The defending champions thrashed Southampton 4-0 on Saturday. Liverpool slipped 14 points off the top and into 10th place in the standings, putting more pressure on manager Jurgen Klopp in a fading start to the season.
