The French national team lost to Tunisia in their final group stage match of the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The Tunisians came out with a lot of conviction, pressing high, and managed to score in the first half, but the referee disallowed it for offside. France did not manage to wake up until after the 20th minute, when Kingsley Coman could have scored the first.

In the second half, Tunisia continued to look more dangerous against a more complacent France, and that was reflected in Wahbi Khazri's goal in the 58th minute after a great individual move. The goal meant they qualified momentarily, but a goal by Australia against Denmark in the other group match saw them out of the tournament.

Klopp wants France player overshadowing Mbappé at World Cup

With their fate already sealed, Antoine Griezmann tried to deny them the consolation of victory by scoring a last-minute equaliser, but the referee disallowed it for offside after consulting the VAR. A prestigious victory for Tunisia, but bittersweet because of their elimination. Tunisia's first-ever win over France (1-0) was a first-ever victory for the Tunisian national team, but they missed out on a place in the last 16 of the World Cup in Qatar after Australia's win over Denmark.

Didier Deschamps' side, with only two regular starters having secured their passage, were outplayed for much of the game by the Tunisians, who scored the only goal of the game after 58 minutes through Wahbi Khazri to give them their first-ever win over the French. Antoine Griezmann, who came to the rescue in the second half alongside Kylian Mbappe, Adrien Rabiot and Ousmane Dembele, scored in extra time but it was disallowed after the referee went to the VAR.

Konaté was France's best

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp was keeping a close eye on this game to see how well Mbappé, who could be coming to the Reds, would perform. But the player who surprised him most was defender Ibrahima Konaté, who despite the defeat, was the best player for the French. Konaté's great interventions in the final group game made him one of France's best players in Qatar, earning the defender a rise in market value with his timely interventions.
