Half jokingly, half seriously. That's how Jurgen Klopp spoke after the crushing win in Glasgow against Rangers on matchday four of the UEFA Champions League group stage. The poor start to this season now brings ghosts in almost every game. Despite a 7-1 thrashing, that last game was no exception, as the Scots opened with a winning start and Liverpool were left to struggle, yet again.

The Anfield manager spoke to TalkSport and focused on the mood of the team. He said they have a ritual of celebrating away wins with a beer. In competitive matches, the Reds had not achieved this since 22 May and 12 games had passed. The wait has been such that Klopp has promised to get drunk to celebrate.

"It's definitely changed the mood, it's completely different. Usually we drink a beer after winning away games, it's been so long that I'll probably get drunk after this one!" he said in a joking tone. What he is very serious about is the subject of the mood of the squad ahead of next Sunday's momentous game against Premier League leaders Manchester City:

"It's good, but we all know who we'll be welcoming on Sunday and this will be a different game, but it's better to go into a game with the feeling we have tonight than any other. We'll see, I'm always ready for a change in the right direction, but we'll see." Klopp is clear that the challenge is a tough one and gave the Citizens supreme status: "We don't have to make a big deal of it, but the best football team in the world at the moment is coming to Anfield on Sunday. We'll see what we can do. It's not like we come with a big mouth and say, 'We're waiting for you!" he confessed humbled by the current situation.

Klopp and his strange ritual

As a good German, the Liverpool manager has a taste for the most popular alcoholic beverage on the planet and of which his country is a great exponent of tradition, brewing and culture. Contrary to what any public figure would do of hiding away to enjoy a good beer, Klopp is open on the subject and a few situations with a fresh one have given him something to talk about at key moments in Liverpool's history.
