Liverpool's intentions for the transfer market seem to be very clear, as Jürgen Klopp wants to focus on signing young players who can help the team to carry out the generational change we need to return as soon as possible to the Champions League, however everything seems to indicate that the Reds will have to compete with several teams to sign the players our coach wants.
Although it has been reported that Liverpool's priority is to sign midfielders to fill the gaps left by the departures of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita, that does not mean that the board is not looking for other players who can strengthen the team in other positions on the pitch, especially taking into account that our team was the worst defensively speaking of the top five in the Premier League.
In that sense, Klopp is aware that Virgil van Dijk is still one of the best central defenders in the world, but it is also no secret that the 31-year-old Dutch defender had perhaps his worst season wearing the Reds jersey, which is why the German tactician also wants to shore up the team's defense.
The name that has been most talked about to reinforce Liverpool in that sector is Micky van de Ven, a 22-year-old Dutch central defender who currently plays for Wolfsburg, one of the reasons why he has also been linked to Liverpool, as our sporting director Jorg Schmadtke was working at that club and knows the player to perfection.
While Liverpool's interest in Micky van de Ven is real and the player has shown signs of wanting to come to Anfield, several reports claim that Tottenham would also have the young Dutch defender in their sights. Currently, van de Ven is valued at 30 million euros, so the Reds' board will have to make an effort if they really want the player in their team.
