Liverpool's defense was the worst of the top five in the Premier League

Last season was a real disaster for our Liverpool, because in addition to the fact that we failed to win a single title, we were out of the top 4 places in the Premier League and with that we lost the opportunity to play the next edition of the Champions League. The defense was one of the main factors why the Reds failed to achieve their goals, and that is why Jürgen Klopp would have as a priority to sign at least one central defender this summer.

In that sense, Jürgen Klopp's top priority was to sign Levi Colwill, a 20-year-old Chelsea defender who has aroused the German tactician's interest as he sees him as the ideal replacement for Virgil van Dijk. However, Chelsea has already told Liverpool on several occasions that Colwill is not for sale, so Klopp will have to look for a plan B to strengthen the defensive line for next season.

Unlike when there has been talk about reinforcing the midfield, there have not been so many candidates to arrive at Anfield in terms of defenders, as Levi Colwill seems to have captured Klopp's attention in terms of defenders, however it seems that the German tactician has accepted that at least in the near future, Colwill will not leave Chelsea, so he would have decided to focus on other players who could arrive at Liverpool this summer.

A few weeks ago the defender who had more chances of joining the Reds was Micky van de Ven, as he is a promising and prolific young player, plus his current club is Wolfsburg, which coincidentally was the last club for which our Sporting Director, Jorg Schmadtke worked, however it seems that van de Ven is currently closer to signing for Tottenham, as apparently Klopp has not considered him as a player capable of playing in the Premier League, but he would have in mind another player to strengthen the defense.

Klopp's plan B

According to several reports, Jürgen Klopp has his eye on Gonçalo Inacio, a 21-year-old Portuguese defender who has dazzled everyone in the Portuguese league. He is currently valued at 30 million euros and could be a very interesting player for the future, so Klopp could try to get him to join Liverpool given the impossibility of signing Levi Colwill.
