Whether by managers, fans or former players, the Liverpool team has always been surrounded by demands that often have no logical basis with which to point to the Reds for the failures that are harvested throughout a season, this being the case of former British defender Jamie Carragher, who week after week finds a flaw with which to criticize this group led by Jurgen Klopp.
Although Carragher, due to his career and achievements, is considered one of the greatest legends of the Reds, that does not mean that his opinion always has to be the most accurate or the best, even making mistakes with some players when criticising them before or after the game, being the Egyptian attacker, Mohamed Salah, the man he mentions the most during his analysis or criticism, although this time the "Pharaoh" was left aside and focused on a defender and a midfielder.

The controversy now revolved around his opinion on the list of England players he would take to the World Cup, posting a screenshot of his notepad where he put his list of players he likes, with only Trent Alexander-Arnold being the only element of his former team that he sees as having the necessary qualities to be able to participate in the national team competition, leaving out defender Joe Gomez and midfielder Harvey Elliott.
Throughout the season both Gomez and Elliott have had the opportunity to prove their qualities to initially earn a place in Jurgen Klopp's starting eleven, with a call-up to the England squad still a long way off. But in that fight for more minutes on the pitch, it is Gomez who is losing out too much because of his mistakes that have hurt the squad especially in the Premier League.
On the other hand, Harvey Elliot is a young player who continues to accumulate minutes with each of his starts, and although in the most recent Premier League and Champions League games the British midfielder has done well, his lack of experience in various situations makes him inexperienced in terms of selection and even more so if he is playing in a World Cup.
