Since the end of the season, Jürgen Klopp and the Liverpool board have had a clear objective for the transfer market, and after the departure of several players in the midfield of the team, they have prioritized the arrival of young midfielders who can be part of the team's long-term project.

That is why Klopp and his coaching staff set to work on the signing of Alexis Mac Allister, who they believe could be the new pillar of the team for the next few years. Mac Allister, 24 years old, won the World Cup with Argentina in Qatar 2022 being one of the most important players, also had a great season with Brighton & Hove Albion, a team that managed to qualify for European competitions next season.

Once Liverpool, managed to make official the arrival of Mac Allister, it was said that he would be only the first in a long list of reinforcements that would arrive at Anfield this summer, and the German tactician would already have the list of targets to reinforce the team and there would even be approaches with some of those players and with the respective boards of their clubs.

However, the injury to one of Liverpool's young players could cause the team to change its plans in the transfer market. The central defender many consider to be Virgil van Dijk's replacement, Sepp van den Berg, suffered an injury that will cause him to miss the U-21 Euro with the Netherlands. This could now result in Liverpool having to look for a defender who can fill in for van Dijk in the 2023-2024 season.

Liverpool's summer targets

Liverpool continue their preparations ahead of the transfer market and after the arrival of Mac Allister they want to further strengthen the midfield. To do so, they want to sign Képhren Thuram, Manu Koné and Nicolo Barella, who would be Klopp's three priorities, although they would not be the only players on Liverpool's radar.
