Although Joel Matip is not necessarily ready for a transfer away from Anfield this summer, the 31-year-old defender understands that his current contract situation makes him at risk of leaving before he even completes his agreed deal with the club, with Saudi Arabia one of the most interesting places for him to continue his career.
The rumours that place this German player out of the team are not new, and for a year now his name has been one of the most frequently placed on the team's transfer lists, surprising even that this summer he was not one of the first to try to accept a deal from the Middle East as Jordan Henderson and Fabinho Tavares did.
According to Anfield Edition publications, Matip is expected to finish his contract and not leave the club this summer, although it is also said that the defender could be looking to leave at any cost by the end of the season. This situation is not surprising considering that Klopp and the board have gradually rejuvenated the squad with the signing of promising European talent, with Matip not having the opportunity to compete with a potential replacement who is much younger and already of a certain age.
Despite Matip's fate being increasingly distant from the Reds, he has a chance to get more playing time in the starting line-up if Jurgen Klopp and the board fail to sign a defender in the next few days, with his on-field activity serving not to convince the club to give him a contract renewal but rather to sell him next summer as a more complete player for whom they will have to pay a higher price, which Saudi Arabian teams would be willing to pay without complications.
