Surprise at Anfield, the player who will never play again after Carabao Cup win

Three days after winning the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley (0-1 with a Virgil van Dijk goal in the 118th minute), Liverpool are back in action: the last 16 of the FA Cup against Southampton (now in the Championship) awaits them on Wednesday. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp addressed the issue of injuries. Firstly, he said that Ryan Gravenberch, who was injured during the final, has a hamstring problem and will be out "at least for the next two games, beyond that we'll see". Faced with so many absentees, the German said that "we need miracles" with so many key players.

Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic are still "without a return date", as Klopp explained. Bajcetic has played two games this season and has been sidelined since September with an unspecified "growth problem", while Thiago relapsed from injury after playing a few minutes against Arsenal.
