Flamengo is in the market for a new number 9 and the name of Roberto Firmino, former Liverpool player and idol of the English fans, emerges as one of the main options. The Brazilian striker, who currently plays for Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia, would have the interest of the Rubro-Negro to reinforce the attack in the next season.
The negotiation, however, will not be easy. Firmino still has a contract with the Arabian club and his salary is considered high. However, the player's identification with Brazilian football and the possibility of competing in continental competitions, such as the Libertadores, could weigh in favor of Flamengo.
The story between Firmino and Flamengo already has a special chapter. In 2019, Liverpool, with Firmino on the field, defeated the Rubro-Negro in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup. Curiously, it was the Brazilian striker himself who scored the winning goal, sealing the English club's conquest.
Another factor that can facilitate the negotiation is the presence of Filipe Luís at Flamengo. The former left-back, who is the new coach, has already played alongside Firmino in the Brazilian national team and both were together at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. The friendship between the two can be an important trump card in the talks with the striker.
The arrival of Firmino at Flamengo would be a great reinforcement for the Rubro-Negro attack. The player has vast experience in big clubs, such as Hoffenheim and Liverpool, and has won several important titles in his career. His technical quality, vision of the game, and finishing ability would be fundamental for Filipe Luís's team.
The negotiation between Flamengo and Roberto Firmino is still in its early stages and many details need to be defined. However, the possibility of having a player of the caliber of the Brazilian is tempting for the Rubro-Negro fans.
