Just as German coach Jürgen Klopp asked for respect for Darwin Nunez, the Uruguayan himself has earned the same respect on the pitch in Wednesday's League Cup semi-final first leg against Fulham, where he came on in the second half and in less than 15 minutes provided two assists to put the game to bed for the Reds.
The first half was very complicated for the Reds as the London team went up on the scoreboard with a goal by the Brazilian striker Willian who took advantage of defensive lapses especially the Dutch captain Virgil Van Dijk who headed badly a ball that was left inside the area and was taken by the Fulham striker to put the score at 1-0.
It was not until the second half that the Merseyside side responded and were able to turn the score around thanks to the introduction of Darwin Nunez who came on in place of Harvey Elliott. He was joined by Dutch striker Cody Gakpo who replaced compatriot Ryan Gravenberch.
In the 68th minute it was Darwin's first great move and he set up Curtis Jones to score the first goal. And just three minutes later, the Uruguayan was on hand again to set up Dutchman Cody Gakpo for a goal. Darwin's streak without scoring goals is important but he continues to collaborate in favour of the team and now he has the new role of providing assists for the goal, something that leaves everyone satisfied.
