The Pool take on the Magpies at St James' Park on Matchday 24 of the Premier League

The Red's are back in action and the game against Newcastle is a great opportunity to climb one more position in the Premier League table, where they are currently in 9th position with 32 points, one more than Chelsea who are also living one of their worst moments despite having spent millions in the recent transfer window.

For this game against the Magpies, fans took to social media after it was confirmed that captain Virgil van Dijk would be available after recovering from the hamstring injury that sidelined him earlier in the year. With this, The Pool's defence would have significant changes.

So with van Dijk's return, the sacrifice would be between England's Joe Gomez or Cameroon's Joel Matip who, for some fans, is responsible for some of the moves that have cost Liverpool points. Matip took on the role of leader in defence in the absence of van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté, who was injured again.

Fans fed up with Matip

For example, one Twitter user mentioned that the Cameroon international "panicked every time he went to fight for the ball", causing more doubt than certainty in the box. Matip joined Liverpool in 2016 where he has had highs and lows in his career, with his best moment coming in 2019 when he won the Champions League.
