Darwin Nunez's Liverpool host Aston Villa this Saturday in the penultimate round of the Premier League. It is the farewell to Anfield for this season, as on the last day of the season they will be away to Southampton. Manager Jürgen Klopp delivered two pieces of news during Friday's pre-match press conference: one good and one bad.
The Liverpool manager confirmed that Brazilian Roberto Firmino is available to return to the squad after recovering from injury, but ruled out fellow striker Darwin Nunez. "Darwin won't be available, he has inflammation in his toe tendon, very painful. He has not trained. The long-term injured are out, but everyone else should be available," he said.
Due to the toe injury the Uruguayan striker already missed the previous game against Leicester City. Nunez has 29 appearances and nine goals in the current English league season. The Premier League leaders Manchester City are four points ahead of Arsenal, so Pep Guardiola's team (who will play in the Champions League final) can be champions this weekend.
Jürgen Klopp said goodbye to Sadio Mane by showering him with praise and claiming he "made them better" after his arrival in 2016. He also appreciated his decision to head to the Bavarians and wished him a good move to his new team. "It's a great moment. There's no point in anyone trying to pretend otherwise. One of the best players in Liverpool's history is leaving and we have to recognise how important this is," he said, speaking to the Merseyside outfit's official website. Liverpool are in fifth place, 20 points behind the Citizens.
