Against the odds, The Pool travelled to St James' Park and silenced the mouths of their detractors with a 2-0 win over the Magpies, who had been favourites after going seven games without defeat. This upset gave Klopp the strength to look forward to the first leg of the Round of 16 tie against Madrid.
Unfortunately, the joy of a second Premier League win for The Pool went out the window when striker Darwin Nunez was stretchered off, leaving him doubtful for Tuesday, when Liverpool will be favourites to win the first meeting between Europe's biggest clubs.
A real strategic duel between Klopp and Ancelotti will take place at Anfield on Tuesday. On one side, Barcelona's La Liga rivals, and at the other end, the Reds, who are looking to continue their climb up the Premier League table. No doubt this clash will be of high calibre and also a repeat of the last final in Paris, where VARdrid were crowned.
Liverpool will be weakened by the loss of Nunez, who returned to goal after six games, the goal against Wolves being the last one before the one he scored against Newcastle at the weekend. Firmino came on for Darwin who immediately went to the bench where the medical team attended to the player trying to get him ready for the Champions League.
