Our Liverpool starred in the most important transfer saga of the summer in English football, although unfortunately for us we lost out, because although the Anfield board had managed to reach an agreement with Brighton to sign Moises Caicedo for a historic transfer fee of £110 million, the Ecuadorian player preferred to wait for an offer from Chelsea, the club he will finally join.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have already reached an agreement with the Seagulls and will pay £115 million to sign the 21-year-old defensive midfielder, who will become the most expensive signing in Premier League history. However, all is not lost for our Liverpool, as they can now focus 100% on signing other players such as Romeo Lavia and a central defender to reinforce the team and complete the squad as soon as possible.
This whole saga that developed around the signing of Caicedo could cause a domino effect in the rest of the summer, because now the other teams know that our Liverpool has the money to spend for players so they could demand even higher amounts to sell a player, plus we have lost valuable time and the team had to play its first game of the season where the lack of a quality defensive midfielder was clearly noticeable.
Jürgen Klopp, after the match against Chelsea, was questioned about this transfer issue and was asked what he thought about Mauricio Pochettino's statement about wanting to sign even more players this summer and his answer caused laughter among the journalists.
Jürgen Klopp responded to the question about Pochettino and Chelsea's intentions of wanting to keep signing even more players even after they have made the most expensive transaction in Premier League history. "That's what the Chelsea managers wants. And usually they get it!" he said.
