Diogo Jota ruled out of Liverpool's Premier League trip to Brentford

Portuguese forward Diogo Jota will not be available for Liverpool's match against Brentford tomorrow in the Premier League.

Immediate impact but a minor muscle issue

Jota, who made a decisive impact off the bench by scoring the equaliser in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest, is sidelined due to a minor muscle problem.

“Jota is an important player for us, but he didn’t train yesterday. We’ll have to see how he is today,” said manager Arne Slot. “It’s unclear if he’ll play tomorrow. He felt a bit uncomfortable after his time on the pitch against Forest and complained a little, which is why he didn’t train yesterday.”

Luis Díaz’s situation and attacking options

Meanwhile, Colombian winger Luis Díaz also missed Thursday’s training session due to a mild sore throat. However, Slot remains hopeful he will feature against Brentford. “I think he’ll train with us today. We want him ready to play,” the manager explained.

Additionally, Darwin Núñez could make his first Premier League start since Boxing Day after serving a one-match suspension. Although the Uruguayan hasn’t scored in the league since November, Slot expressed full confidence in him:

“I don’t think he’s struggling with confidence. He’s been involved in several important goals. Strikers sometimes don’t score, but Darwin will get his goals, as he has done before at this club.”

Decisions on Jaden Dunns

The fitness of Liverpool’s senior forwards will also influence the decision to loan out Jaden Dunns later this month. The young striker impressed recently by scoring against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup.

“Dunns has done a great job when he’s been on the pitch. We have four attacking options, so we need to make the best decisions for the club’s short- and long-term future,” Slot concluded.

Liverpool will face Brentford with a few absences but will aim to stay in the fight for the top spots in the Premier League.
